Statements

For Chair

Anne MacLennan, York University, Canada

I have been attending IAMCR very regularly since the year it was hosted in Montreal. I participate in a variety of sections, but most consistently in the History section. I have contributed service as an abstract reviewer for a few years and am a regular presenter at the conference. I had hoped to host the conference at my university a few years ago, but a variety of factors including the pandemic stopped me.

I am primarily a media historian, focusing on the development of the radio schedule in Canadian during the 1930s as an indicator of radio in general. I have published on radio history and other topics in a variety of journals such as the Journal of Radio and Audio Media, The Radio Journal, Media and Communications, Women's Studies, Relations Industrielles/Industrial Relations and more. My work appears in chapters in many edited collections. I am an Associate Professor at York University. I am a past Chair and a past Graduate Program Director there. I've supervised 12 PhD students and 37 MA students to a successful conclusion. I have had national grants since 2008, co-authored a book on radio in the home with Michael Windover. I currently am working on book projects, which include community radio with Dr. Katie Moylan and other based on interviews with listeners from the 1930s based on 744 interviews. My own research has a critical focus; I believe that I can support the work of History at the IAMCR.

Sincerely,

Anne MacLennan

For Vice-chair

Wajiha Raza Rizvi, Film Museum Society Pakistan

I, Wajiha Raza Rizvi, have served IAMCR as a member of abstract review committees of different S&WGs since 2012. I am a member of International Council and serve on different committees. In 2015, I became Vice Chair and in 2016 I was elected Co-Chair of Gender and Communication Section. My term will conclude with IAMCR Singapore Conference.

I am interested in serving as Vice Chair of History Section of IAMCR in view of my interest in geopolitical issues, cross border news framing, and representations of world wars, Vietnam war, nuclear paranoia, and dictatorships in film and media.

I believe I can both learn from and contribute to the History Section, if elected Vice Chair of the Section.

Over the years, I have collaborated with my peers, leveraging continuity and smooth transfer of responsibilities of the Section from my predecessors to successors with good rotation of tasks. We conducted live interactive sessions and workshops, and socials during face-to-face conferences in different countries. We actively publish newsletters, focusing on contributions and successes of our members. I have closely worked with different S&WG heads to prepare Calls for Papers and conference programs as well as found members for the Abstract Review Committee to invite annual presentations for IAMCR conferences in time. I worked with GEN members to organize symposia or webinars in Singapore in July 2021 and annually in India until March 2024. I collaborated with IAMCR members to contribute chapters to their books or special issues of journals, and IAMCR’s book on History. I have published research on documentary film classics from across Europe.

Like IAMCR, I believe in academic cooperation, mutual understanding and growth. I recently served on an intergovernmental position as Senior Research & Policy Specialist - Education, Research & Policy in Africa, focusing on sectoral development issues in the Global South. It was a great opportunity, which merged my Global North training with Global South experience. It positively reflects on my past collaborations with a team of experts, resulting in 14 course connections among 30 courses taught in nine countries in North America, Europe, Asia & the Middle East.

I closely worked with Marie Adelaide Leprosy Center in Pakistan on a project sponsored by World Health Organization. I produced Pakistan: Education and Women for the United States Embassy / Consulate in Pakistan. I maintain a large collection of film archives from British India, and I have about a hundred media productions to my credit.

I am Director at Film Museum Society and Associate Professor at Beaconhouse National University Pakistan. I was President of Pakistan National Association of Fulbright Alumni until 2024. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from National College of Arts Pakistan, MA in Television Documentary from Goldsmiths College University of London, and PhD in Communication Studies from University of the Punjab Pakistan. I went to Oklahoma State University on Fulbright and I went to Oslo Metropolitan University as Global Inter Media Dialog Research Scholar.
