For Chair
Yanick Farmer, Université du Québec à Montréal, Canada

It is with great pleasure that I would like to propose my candidacy today for the position of Chairman of the Ethics of Society and Ethics of Communication Working Group (ETH-WG) of the IAMCR.
Since 2011, I have been a professor specializing in communication ethics at the Faculty of Communication of the Université du Québec à Montréal in Canada. The graduate and undergraduate students I teach come from all fields of communication, including journalism, public relations, advertising, organizational communication, international and intercultural communication, digital communication and more. As a researcher, my work, which is published internationally in English, French and Spanish, is also highly diversified, touching on many different aspects of communication. Because it is rooted in values and a worldview that permeate most of our thoughts and behaviours, I believe that ethics acts as a transversal dimension of most media and communication phenomena, and that in this sense, the work carried out for several years within our working group has considerable importance within the IAMCR. Thus, my vision joins that of several members of the ETH-WG, as well as that of our group's former chairwomen, Maria Teresa Nicolas and Elvira Garcia de Torres, with whom I will continue to work closely.
I've been involved as a member of this IAMCR working group since 2013. Since then, I've been actively contributing to the group's work in various ways (speaker, session chair, organizer, etc.). In 2015, I even chaired the local organizing committee (LOC) for the IAMCR annual congress held in Montreal. At that time, the congress attracted nearly 1,500 people from 95 countries.
My plan for the future is to continue working to ensure a significant place for ethics within the IAMCR, and to extend our efforts towards the internationalization and inclusiveness of our activities. Indeed, with other members, I share the conviction that progress in ethics research and its impact on media and communication requires the contribution of different knowledge and perspectives rooted in cultures from different parts of the world. It is the addition of all these visions that will contribute to the influence and richness of our group's work.
In conclusion, I would like to express my gratitude to the members of the working group who will be exercising their right to vote in this election. Whatever the outcome, rest assured that your interest and commitment will be mobilized in the future to fuel the dynamism of our group.
Yours sincerely,
Yanick Farmer, Ph.D, Full professor

For Vice-Chair

Ben Hur Demeneck, independent researcher: JDL-IEA/USP; CROSSMEDIA Project, Brazil
Dear ETH-WG members,
My name is Ben Hur Demeneck. I am a Brazilian journalist and university professor with a PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of São Paulo (USP).
An active ETH-WG member since the 2012 conference in Durban, South Africa, I have attended seven annual IAMCR conferences in person across different continents. My engagement began during my PhD years and included collaboration with the Young Scholars Network.
I taught Journalism at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) for six years and am now involved in editorial and research initiatives based in São Paulo. These include an imprint dedicated to journalism at Veneta publishing house and my ongoing participation, since 2015, in the Journalism, Law and Freedom Research Group (JDL), affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Studies at USP (IEA-USP). I also collaborate with the international CROSSMEDIA Project on cross-border journalism.
JOINING A COLLECTIVE EFFORT | It is with great enthusiasm that I present my candidacy for the position of Vice-Chair of the Ethics of Society & Ethics of Communication Working Group (ETH-WG) of IAMCR for the 2025–2029 term. I am standing for this role primarily to contribute to the vibrant community that has grown around it — a space of learning, exchange, and reflection that has been deeply meaningful to me. I see this as a moment to give back. A central goal of our candidacy is to advance a longstanding aspiration shared by leaders and members: the transformation of the ETH-WG into a Section.
GLOBAL SOUTH PERSPECTIVE | I bring my experience as a researcher based in the Global South — not as a singular or representative voice, but as one among many that can enrich our collective work. This perspective is shaped both by academic reading and by lived, everyday experience, and is attuned not only to the challenges the Global South faces, but also to the solutions it creates. It reflects a sensitivity to the region’s creative power and its intellectual and philosophical contributions — often grounded in plurality, resistance, and interdependence.
As a researcher and journalist rooted in the Global South, I was one of 15 editors and media leaders from across Latin America selected for the Beca Cosecha Anfibia — a fellowship that culminated in the publication of the essay collection Futuro Imperfecto: ¿Hacia dónde va el periodismo? (2021), released in Buenos Aires and focused on the future of journalism in times of crisis.
LET’S BUILD THIS TOGETHER | I kindly ask for your support so that, together, we can continue strengthening ETH-WG as a space for critical and inclusive reflection on the ethical challenges of communication — and work towards the transformation of this working group into a Section of IAMCR.
With best regards,
Ben Hur Demeneck

Marta Martín Llaguno (University of Alicante, Spain)
It is an honor to run for Vice-chair of the Ethics of Society and Ethics of Communication (ETH) Working Group of IAMCR. I aim to continue the important work carried out by the previous leaders of the group and strengthen our mission in ethical research within the field of communication.
As a member of IAMCR since 2013, I have had the privilege of presenting at various editions of the conference and contributing to the reflection on ethics in communication, particularly in politics—a field where I have focused my research and professional involvement, having served for five years as a public representative in the national parliament. In both my academic and professional work, I have been committed to promoting ethical, truthful, inclusive, and responsible communication, particularly in the context of political communication.
One of my key objectives is to foster an inclusive and diverse environment within the Ethics Working Group, reflecting the cultural, geographical, and research interests of our members. We have a team that is diverse in terms of gender, region (North-South), and languages (English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese), which allows us to address ethical challenges in communication from a global and multicultural perspective. This diversity also extends to our specializations: we have specialists in the philosophy of ethics, journalism, and myself in political communication and advertising deontology, which enriches our interdisciplinary approach.
My commitment to IAMCR and to the ETH Working Group is strong, and my vision is to continue working to strengthen ethics in communication within both the academic and professional fields. I aim to continue the work initiated by the previous leadership team, expanding opportunities for the participation of members from diverse regions and disciplines. We are convinced that ethics in communication must continue to be a priority within IAMCR and in the academic world in general, and that, with your collaboration and support, we can advance this agenda.
Thank you for considering my candidacy. I am excited about the possibility of contributing to this important group and collaborating with all of you to strengthen ethical work in communication.
Sincerely,
Marta Martín Llaguno

Nathalie PIERRE-CHARLES, France
I am submitting my application for the position of Vice-chair within the ETH working group.
Since 2019, I have actively contributed to the group's work and participated in various online conferences, which has allowed me to become familiar with its themes, which I find particularly compelling.
As a reviewer for abstract validation, I have deepened my commitment and strengthened my desire to contribute further to the group's objectives. My experience within IAMCR has allowed me to appreciate the diversity and richness of the reflections fostered by our scientific community, and I would like to continue supporting this effort.
I would be honored to bring my skills and experience to this dynamic team and contribute to the development of its projects.
I look forward to your response and remain at your disposal for any further information.
Sincerely,
Nathalie
