IAMCR Webinar Series
"Digital Sovereignty: Debates and Challenges from a Global South perspective"
Debates on digital sovereignty, particularly in the Global South, highlight tensions between the desire and fight for autonomy and the constraints imposed by economic realities and global power imbalances. Co-sponsored by the Communication Policy & Technology Section (CPT) and the National Institute of Science in Informational Disputed and Sovereignties (INCT DSI, Brazil), this webinar aims to tackle questions and offer answers about some of these debates.
What are the different definitions, meanings and interpretations of digital sovereignty? How can we go beyond the legal and state-centric notions of sovereignty in different parts of the world? What are the main struggles around sovereignty for governments, workers, activists, and other social actors? What are the relevant infra structural issues to be considered when we focus on digital sovereignty? What are the implications of digital sovereignty for data security, socio-political and technological ecosystems? What are the different sovereignty models, challenges and opportunities? Join us for this insightful webinar to delve into the complex landscape of digital sovereignty from a Global South perspective. We look forward to having this global dialogue on a timely issue with you and the IAMCR community.
