Singapore 2025
With a record-breaking 4200+ submissions from authors in 81 countries, IAMCR 2025 promises to be a diverse and engaging conference. Hosted by Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, this year’s conference will be held from 13-17 July, under the theme “Communicating Environmental Justice: Many Voices, One Planet”. Registration for IAMCR Singapore 2025 is now open!
We apologise for the delay, but we’re pleased to share that the extra time allowed us to reduce fees—most notably by arranging an exemption from Singapore’s 9% Goods and Services Tax for foreign participants.

Accommodation
The Local Organising Committee has partnered with various hotels and on-campus housing to offer convenient and affordable accommodation options for conference participants.

Awards available
Applications are now open for various awards available to authors of papers accepted for presentation at the conference. These include awards for excellent papers dealing with climate change communication, urban communication, the award in Memory of Stuart Hall, and a new thematic award, Decolonising the Digital. The deadline to apply for these awards is 6 April. Read more and apply.
The Conference Dinner
When registering, consider joining us for An Unforgettable Evening at Gardens by the Bay—a special dinner at one of Singapore’s most iconic attractions, offering a chance to unwind and connect with fellow participants in a spectacular setting.
Pre-conferences

Several webinars have taken place in recent months, and their recordings are available here:
- “Health Communication at the Crossroads” – Leading experts explored the evolving landscape of health communication theory, research, and practice.
- “Environmental and Social Justice: Participatory & Community Communication” – A two-day webinar anticipating the IAMCR Singapore 2025 theme, "Communicating Environmental Justice: Many Voices, One Planet."
- “Open Access and the Democratisation of Knowledge” – A discussion on the practical aspects of open-access publishing from the perspective of academic publishers.
- “Digital Sovereignty: Debates and Challenges from a Global South Perspective” – This session examined different definitions and interpretations of digital sovereignty, questioning how to move beyond legal and state-centric notions across various regions.
- The Inclusive Communication and People with Disabilities Working Group recently organised two webinars on inclusive communication, bringing together leading scholars to advance global discussions on inclusivity, accessibility, and equity in media and communication research. - “Intersectional Political Economy of Media” – A book talk launching Intersectionality, Political Economy, and Media, explaining the integration of feminist theory, critical race theory, and critical political economy theory.

The Digital Divide Working Group in collaboration with the Mass Media Research Group at the University of Sharjah (UAE) will host a research symposium on "Digital Capital and Political Power" at the University of Sharjah, UAE. Read more >
SJTU-IAMCR Emerging Media Forum (18-19 April - Shanghai, China)
Jointly organised by the School of Media and Communication at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and IAMCR, the "SJTU-IAMCR Emerging Media Forum" will explore the theme "Intelligent Transformation and Communication Innovation". Read more >
Political Communication regional conference (20-22 May - Puebla, Mexico and online)
The Political Communication Research Section will be holding its first Regional Conference on the theme “Political Communication in Latin America: Populism, Democratic Dilemmas and Disintermediation Technologies”, at the Institute of Government Sciences and Strategic Development (ICGDE) of the Autonomous University of Puebla, Mexico. Community and alternative media conference (29-30 May - Galway, Ireland)
The Community Communication and Alternative Media Section is organising a face-to-face conference in Galway, Ireland, to explore how critical engagement with media can foster more inclusive, equitable societies. The submission deadline is 15 April. Read more>
Publications
New FAO-IAMCR book on rural communication
Collaborative Change: Towards Inclusive Rural Communication Services is a collaboration between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and IAMCR. It showcases the work of IAMCR's Rural Communication Working Group and the FAO/IAMCR Rural Communication Services Research Awards. Access it here.
IAMCR/Wiley series
We are pleased to announce the forthcoming title in The Global Handbooks in Media and Communication Research series, published by IAMCR and Wiley Blackwell. The Handbook of Digital Labor, edited by Jack L. Qiu, Richard Maxwell, Marisol Sandoval and Shinjoung Yeo provides a global perspective on labor and technology, exploring resistance, solidarity, and alternatives in digital capitalism.
