The Islam and Media Working Group of IAMCR invites submissions of abstracts for papers and panel proposals for the next annual IAMCR conference to be held from 25-29 June 2013 at Dublin City University, Ireland.
We request you to read this CFP in full, and note all details and requirements regarding submissions.
The conference theme “Crises, ‘Creative Destruction’ and the Global Power and Communication Order” considers the impact of the current global economic crisis on the global geo-political and communication orders. The Islam and Media Working Group is interested in how the international global economic crisis generates new forms, modes, networks and frames of communication particularly in Muslim countries.
The conference theme is related to the value system, news values and media ethics particularly to principles of good governance, accountability, transparency and corruption fighting measures in Muslim countries. Consequences of the global economic crisis on the structure of media and news organizations, new forms of media ownership, advertising revenues, media job markets in Muslim countries in comparison to other countries are all of special interest to the Islam and Media Working Group.
The group especially welcomes submission of papers on the following research areas:
- Global economic crisis effects on traditional media structures in Muslim countries.
- Global economic crisis, media agenda and media performance in Muslim and Non Muslim countries.
- Evaluation of the global economic crisis in terms of Islamic media ethics and Islamic news values.
- Media and global economic crisis management in different democratic and non-democratic Muslim countries.
- Crisis communication, leaders, and credibility crisis during the global economic crisis.
- Social reforms, social justice, corruption fighting and poverty alleviation initiatives and the global economic crisis.
- Arab spring media and the global economic crisis.
- Islamic Law, Media and Islamic economy in times of global economic crisis.
- Shifts in images of Islamic culture, leaders and economies in times of the global economic crisis.
- Social networks, alternative media and civil society initiatives and discourses in Muslim and Non Muslim countries.
All abstract submissions must be made via the OCS at http://iamcr-ocs.org, from 15 November 2012 to 28 January, 2013 (deadline). Please note that this deadline will not be extended. Early submission is strongly encouraged.
Decisions on acceptance of abstracts will be communicated to applicants by their Section or Working Group Head no later than 28 February 2013.
For those whose abstracts are accepted, full conference papers are to be submitted via the IAMCR OCS http://iamcr-ocs.org by 28 May 2013.
Please ensure that your abstract contains the following:
- Title of the paper.
- Author information: The name(s) of author(s) and title (professor, postdoctoral fellow, graduate student, etc.), institutional affiliation, e-mail address, postal, phone and fax information should be provided.
- Length of abstract: 300 - 500 words.
Content: The group values diversity in perspectives and methods. Reviewers will assess the abstracts according to the significance of the topic, clarity of the idea, its relevance to the main theme, main question and hypothesis, the conceptual framework, methods of data collections and research design, literature review and expected findings.
Please note: Individuals may submit 1 abstract (paper) per Section or Working Group as lead author, and a maximum of 2 abstracts (papers) to a single IAMCR conference in general. Please note also that the same abstract or another version with minor variations in title or content must not be submitted to other Sections or Working Groups of the Association for consideration, after an initial submission. Such submissions will be deemed to be in breach of the conference guidelines and will be automatically rejected by the Open Conference System, by the relevant Head or by the Conference Programme Referee. Such applicants risk being removed entirely from the conference programme.
Upon submission of an abstract, you will be asked to confirm that your submission is original and that it has not been previously published in the form presented. You will also be given an opportunity to declare if your submission is currently before another conference for consideration.
